May 2025

May’s monthly meeting of the Iola Amateur Radio Club was a little different this month. It was held May 13th, 2025, at the home of club Secretary Chase Riebel, KF0GFE. The informal meeting was held “cookout style” with food provided by Chase and his wife Jessica, KF0MJH. The evening was filled with food and fun. No formal meeting minutes were actually kept.

The meeting was mostly used to discuss the location and set-up of the repeater system. A site was chosen on the Reibel’s property. The repeater will consist of a 75ft crank-up tower donated to the club by Steve, KD0JLE, with an additional mast extending the antenna up to approximately 80 – 85ft. Other items still need to be discussed and procured before the repeater will be operational (the biggest items include cavities/diplexer for the 2m repeater system, as well as concrete for the antenna base and pad for the shed).

Field Day was also discussed. Up for discussion was joining with the Neosho Amateur Radio Club in Chanute, Kansas. Members present agreed with the idea, and Steve said he would contact Bernie, AI0E, Neosho’s club president, for further discussion on set-up and other logistics.

After a few off-topic discussions, including a sudden “bird attack” on Bruce, KF0SMN, the meeting was called into adjournment.

Thank you to the Reibel’s for hosting this month’s meeting and for the wonderful food.
